Don’t Understand Your Arthritis? These Tips Can Help!

Arthritis comes often in this world and is known for having a huge impact on millions of people across the globe. It can stop the oldest and strongest of warriors in their tracks or disable the knees of young mother in her 20’s. It is this wide range that makes it so difficult to fight or prevent, but it can be done.

Watch out for co-morbid condition, especially depression. Arthritis and depression can lock you into a feedback loop: you’re tired and in pain, so you can’t do the things you love, which makes you more upset. Being upset then leads to symptom flare-ups. If you think you are depressed, speak with your doctor about a referral to a psychiatrist.

Learn ways to adapt to your child’s need to play without injuring yourself or making your rheumatoid arthritis worse. If your child wants to play on the floor, try sitting on the bed or on the stairs to give yourself a break from trying to get up and down from the floor.

Buy heated slippers. Most people who suffer from arthritis will have it in there feet, as well as other locations. For comfortable pain relief in the feet, get some heated slippers online, and use them whenever you find it necessary. These can quickly help to relieve inflammation and swelling, and most of them are easily slipped in the microwave.

Discuss your arthritis with the younger members of your family. Small children may be concerned that you are injured if you are using wrist splints or walking aids. Discuss the condition with them at their level, so they can understand without fear and perhaps even assist you during a flare-up.

If you have been having trouble turning door knobs, consider having your door hardware switched out for handles instead of knobs. When you are dealing with arthritis flare ups, you can use your elbow and forearm to do the work of opening the door saving your hands the trouble.

Make sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables if you want to help ease the effects of arthritis. Fruits and vegetables are healthy for all people, but for people with arthritis, they are especially helpful because they have vitamins and nutrients that help to build healthy joints and reduce joint inflammation.

Try hot wax for relief. While heating pads can give great relief when used, they do not completely touch every painful spot. Warm wax envelopes your entire hand or foot, giving you complete relief to the painful areas. Make sure the wax is not too hot, and do not use it too often, or you may cause more irritation than you fix.

The key in arthritis and stopping the impacts comes from fighting it before the symptoms actually appear. Many simple things done throughout the day can increase or decrease your chances of developing arthritis and thus should either be avoided or encouraged accordingly. Pay close attention to your diet and make sure you follow some of the simple guidelines mentioned earlier.
